That evening, Utterson takes Jekyll’s will from the safe. ‘In the event of Jekyll’s disappearance, all possessions go to Hyde’. Utterson visits Lanyon, he doesn’t know Hyde. Utterson watches the door for days and eventually sees Hyde enter. He goes to tell Jekyll, who isn’t in. All servants are told to obey Hyde

Two weeks later Utterson speaks to Jekyll about the will. Jekyll laughs off Utterson’s worry’s and jokes about Lanyon. Jekyll hints at a strange relationship between him and Hyde, he wants Utterson to carry out the will

A

A year later, Hyde kills Carew. A letter addressed to Utterson is found on the body. He lets police into Hyde’s house. Utterson recognises half the murder weapon

Utterson goes to Jekyll’s and finds him looking deathly sick. He asks whether he is hiding Hyde. Jekyll assures him he will never see Hyde again. He shows Utterson a letter to prove this. Utterson shows Guest and he says the writing is very similar

A

Hyde is nowhere to be seen, Jekyll is happy again. Suddenly he’s depressed and won’t see Utterson. Utterson visits Lanyon but he’s on his death bed. Utterson writes to Jekyll and he replies suggesting he is falling under a dark influence. Lanyon dies and leaves a letter for Utterson

Utterson and Enfield are on a walk when they pass Jekyll’s window and see him looking like a prisioner. He calls for Jekyll and Jekyll’s turns to terror and despair

Poole comes to se Utterson asking him to come round. The lab door is locked and the voice inside doesn’t sound like Jekyll. Poole says it’s been crying for a chemical for days. They break in an Hyde is on the floor. The will on the table says everything is left to Utterson. There’s a letter asking Utterson to read Lanyon’s letter

A

Utterson is reading Lanyon’s letter. It explains him going to collect a drawer of chemicals, vile and notebook and give it to a man at midnight. A small man comes at midnight. He offers to leave or Lanyon can watch. Lanyon watches and Hyde becomes Jekyll. Lanyon becomes seriously ill.
