A

AD 46, first mission to the Gentiles begins: Barnabas & Paul are sent off from Antioch and go to Cyprus; Perga (where John Mark left); and the S Galatian cities of Antioch of Pisidia, Iconium, Lystra, and Derbe.

Peter’s first sermon

In these cities, strong churches were established.

With the exception of Cyprus, Barnabas and Paul then retraced their steps on the way home to Antioch of Syria.
Reporting back, they described how God had dramatically “opened the door of faith to the Gentiles”

A

the Jerusalem Council - the events that triggered it (the circumcision party coming to Antioch and teaching believers that they needed to be circumcised to be saved; then deciding on practical guidelines for table fellowship), the council itself, and the aftereffects.

Paul began the 2nd missionary journey without Barnabas/Mark. Paul was joined by Silas, revisited the S Galatian cities, and Timothy joined.

setting out from Antioch, Paul & Silas revisit the churches of S Galatia, proceed w Timothy to Troas (where Luke joins) and sail to Macedonia to begin ministry in Europe.
The gospel comes to Philippi (3 touched - Lydia, demon-possessed slave girl, jailer) (Paul & Silas imprisoned and then released) (Luke maybe stays),
Thessalonica (more Greeks believe than Jews),
Berea (Jews searched the Scriptures),
Athens (sent bc of Jewish dissent at Thessalonica & then Berea; waited for Silas & Timothy and preached Mars Hill at Aeropagus bc of the idols), and
Corinth.
Paul stops briefly at Ephesus on the way to Jerusalem and Antioch.

chapter 18-23 summary

A

Paul leaves Antioch and revisits the S Galatian churches.
Apollos ministers in the synagogue at Ephesus and leaves for Corinth.
Paul arrives at Ephesus, and the church grows from 12 to a great influence that affects the idol-making trade.
After a near riot in the amphitheater, Paul leaves Ephesus, revisits Macedonia & Greece, and heads for Jerusalem.
En route to Jerusalem, he bids farewell to the Ephesian elders at Miletus.

A

Paul met Priscilla & Aquila in Athens and did tent-making; Silas & Timothy came to him w a gift.
The synagogue opposed Paul, so he went to the Gentiles next door (Titius Justus). Crispus, the synagogue leader, and many others believed. Paul stayed 1.5 years.

Paul left after being brought before Gallio and set off to Ephesus with Priscilla & Aquila.

Paul alone went to Caesarea and then to Jerusalem and then to Antioch.

3rd missionary journey - Paul set out alone. revisited churches.
Apollos came to Ephesus & Priscilla and Aquila taught him of the baptism of Jesus.
God brought Paul to Ephesus now.

7 sons of Sceva tried to use the name of Jesus but failed.

A

Paul journeys to Jerusalem, where believers greet him. They request he sponsors 4 men who are under a vow. Near the end of the time, Paul is seized by a mob in the temple.
Roman soldiers rescue him and he speaks to the mob.
Paul speaks to the Sanhedrin, divides it, and is escorted from Jerusalem to Caesarea by Roman soldiers when a plot against his life is discovered.

A

Paul’s prison experience over a 2 year span at Caesarea, which includes his defense before Felix, then Festus who took over next, and Herod Agrippa, whom Festus asked to hear Paul to help him have content for a case to give to Caesar.

A

Paul and his company set sail for Rome, are wrecked because of a storm, spend the winter on Malta, and finally come to Rome. There Paul meets other believers and the Jewish leadership and continues unhindered in preaching the gospel for 2 years.
