American National Standards Institute (ANSI)

fire watch

hot work
a permit that must be obtained from the local fire department before welding or cutting can be done outside the shop
hot work permit
the process of keeping floors, workbenches, and the entire welding shop clean and free of dirt, scrap metal, grease, oil and anything that is not essential to the job at hand
housekeeping
a type of safety equipment worn on the face or over the head of a welder; used to remove harmful fumes and particles by drawing contaminated air through a filter or cartridge in the respirator
negative-pressure air-purifying respirator
waste materials that can be disposed of through normal channels of collecting, transporting, and processing according to local, state, and federal regulations
non-hazardous waste
a federal organization within the Department of Labor that sets and enforces workplace safety and training standards.
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
the eye, ear, head, hand, arm, leg, foot, and general body protective equipment used by each individual on the job.
personal protective equipment
a type of safety equipment that incorporates full-face headgear to deliver a constant flow of clean breathing air to the welder
positive-pressure respirator
a federal law that provides regulations for the proper and legal storage, treatment, and disposal of solid, liquid, or gaseous hazardous waste.
Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
a document that provides crucial information about chemicals in the work space. This information includes the names of substances and chemicals along with their known health effects, symptoms, first-aid treatment, and other details.
