What is a Temple?
*Our place of worship and magical working.
- It can be in a living-room, with a cleared area.
- A room set aside for worship only
What is the “Opening Ritual?”
- The furnishing or decorating of the Temple
- These will be indicated at the beginning of each Sabbat Section.
- The same for each of the Sabbats; but might have a slight difference in detail.
What is the “Circle Area?”
- An alter setup at the Northern point of its circumstance.
- Must be in a cleared area.
- This alter may be a small table (a coffee table is ideal) or a cloth laid on the floor.
What is the number of items on a “Traditional Altar?”

Where does the Pair of Alter Candles go?
One at each side of the Chalice
What is a Chalice?
A large cup or goblet, typically used for drinking wine.
Where does the Sword go?
On the floor, in front of the Altar, or on the Altar itself.
Where does the Incense used for?
A supply of the chosen incense, and matches or a cigarette-lighter- Use as a taper to carry flame from candle to candle.
What role does music play in the Opening Ritual
It should be playing in the background.
What Element does the North direction represent?
Earth
What Element does the South direction represent?
Fire
What Element does the West direction represent?
Water
What Element does the East direction represent?
Air
Where is the One place outside of the Circle is meant to be clear?
The North-East quadrant: The coven stands there to begin, waiting for the High Priestess to admit them.
When are you ready to begin your Ritual?
Once you make sure there will be no interruptions, light the incense and the six candles and you are ready!!!
What does the Priestess and Priest do to begin the Ritual?
Kneel before the altar together.
Note: The Priest is always to the Priestess’s Right.
What does the rest of the coven do while the Priest and Priestess kneel before the altar?
Stand outside the North-East quadrant of the Circle.
What does the High Priestess do after kneeling before the altar?
She puts the bowl of water on the pentacle, puts the point of her athame in the water.
What does the Priestess say when she puts the bowl of water on the penticle & puts the point of her athame in the wanter?
- “I exorcise thee,
- O creature of water, that thou cast out from thee all the impurities and uncleanliness of
- The spirits of the world of phantasm; in the names of Cernunnos and Aradia.”
- Note: You may choose different names of the God or Goddess.
What does the Priestess do once she says the spell to bless the bowl of water?
She lays down the Athame and holds up the bowl of water with both hands.
After the High Priestess holds the bowl of water up, what happens next?
The High Priest puts the bowl of salt on the pentacle, puts the tip of his athame in the salt.
What does the High Priest say after putting the bowl of salt on the penticle?
“Blessings be upon this creature of salt; let all malignity and hindrance be cast forth hencefrom, and let all good enter herein; wherefore do I bless thee, that thou mayest aid me, in the names of Cernunnos and Aradia.”
What does the High Priest do after saying the spell to bless the bowl of salt?
He lays down his athame and pours the salt into the bowl of water which the High Priestess is holding up.
Once the High Priest adds the salt to the bowl of water, what does he then do?
Then the both put down their bowls on the altar, and the High Priest leaves the Circle to stand with the coven.
What does the High Priestess do, once the High Priest returns outside of the Circle?
She draws the Circle with the sword, leaving a gateway in the North-East (by raising her sword higher than the heads of the coven as she passes them.)
How does the High Priestess draw the Circle?
She proceeds deosil (clockwise) from North to North.
What does the High Priestess say while drawing the Circle?
“I conjure thee, O Circle of Power, that thou beest a meeting place of love and joy and truth; a shield against all wickedness and evil; a boundary between the world of men and the realms of the Mighty Ones; a rampart and protection that shall preserve and contain the power that we shall raise within thee. Wherefore do I bless thee and consecrate thee, in the names of Cernunnos and Aradia.”
What does the High Priestess do after drawing the Circle?
She then lays down the sword and admits the High Priest to the Circle with a kiss, spinning with him deosil.
