Chapter Four Cells Flashcards
The membrane that surrounds all the cytoplasm of a cell
Cell membrane
Allowing only certain molecules to pass through
Selectively permeable
The passage of substances across a membrane without the use of a cellular energy
Passive transport
The movement of molecules from an area of higher concentration To an area of lower concentration a form of passive transport
Diffusion
The diffusion of water through a selectively permeable membrane
Osmosis
The passage of particles through a membrane requiring the use of cellular energy
Active transport
Substances found in a cell wall are made by the cell and a symbol just outside the cell membrane
Cell wall
The parts of a cell that performs any of the functions needed to keep the cell alive
Organelles
What is the cells powerhouse
Mitochondria
A maze of passageways foreign by a folded membrane passing through out the cytoplasm
Endoplasmic reticulum
Proteins that serve as a major building materials of cells
Ribosomes
The structure process these chemicals and makes them more complex
Golgi apparatus
What are organelles that look like bubbles and serve as containers inside the cytoplasm of some cells
Vacuoles
It circulates in the cytoplasm and use their enzymes as a demolition crew
Lysosomes
What are organelles that are made of an outer membrane in stacks of inner membrane and contains the green pigment chlorophyll
Chloroplast
