Restoration
The restoration of the English monarchy when the English, Scottish, and Irish monarchies were all restored under Charles II in 1660
English civil war
1642-1649. Civil war between people loyal to Charles I and people who supported parliament (Oliver Cromwell). It ended with the defeat of Charles I and his execution for being a traitor against the present parliament.
Glorious revolution
The overthrow of King James II of England (James VII of Scotland and James II of Ireland) by a union of English Parliamentarians with the Dutch William of Orange.
French and Indian war
British soldiers fought against French soldiers and native Americans. The Indians fought on the side of the French because they were afraid the English would take their land. The British won when they captured Quebec. The result of the war was the British got most of the French land in the peace treaty if 1763 and the British began taxing the colonists to pay for the war.
Treaty of Paris
Treaty that officially ended the revolutionary war and Britain recognized the independent nation of the United States
