Yalta feb 1945
They agreed to divide Germany and that Stalin had to allow free elections in Poland.
Churchill and Roosevelt disagreed about Stalin.
Tehran 1943
The big three agrees to open fronts in France and Japan and agreed to give land to Stalin. They also agreed to form the un after the war.
However, they couldn’t decide what to do about Germany
Potsdam July 1945
The zones were confirmed and they agreed to give Germany reparations, most of which would go to Stalin.
However they fell out about the fate of Poland and Stalin was very angry that Truman had tested the atom bomb without telling him.
Differences between the super powers
Poland: Stalin wanted it to be a sati lite state but the others wanted free elections.
Communism and capitalism deeper rated them.

Hungary, Czech , Romania, Poland, Bulgaria
Cominform
An informal political union of the satellite states.
A response to the Truman doctrine.
Comecon
Stalins economic union of the satellite states. Response to the Marshall plan
Truman doctrine
Truman wanted to contain communism. He said the USA would do anything to stop it spreading eg the Korean War
Marshall plan
USA gave money to any country who needed it, including ussr. Stalin saw it as a bribe to remain capitalist.
Bizonia 1947
USA joined with England zones in Germany and Berlin. They introduced a new currency. Stalin said it was going against the agreements at the conferences.
Berlin blockade 1948
Stalin blockaded West Berlin to try and make USA give it to him. Supplies were flown in for months, upto 8000 tonnes each day.
NATO 1949
Alliance of western countries to help each other. It was a direct response to the blockade.

Rakosi
Unpopular leader of Hungary put in place by Stalin. Secret police improsoned any one who opposed them. He was very controlling of the economy. He set ridiculous targets in work houses resulting in poor working conditions.
Nagy1956
Nagy was a liberal communist. This worried Khrushchev as he thought he would leave the Warsaw Pact, so Khrushchev invaded Hungary and killed Nagy
