Chapter Five Flashcards
How are growth rates, body proportions, and motor skills related during early
childhood?
all three are increasing, growth rate is exponential from three to six, legs are about half of body height, beginning to develop gross and fine motor skills
What do children need to learn various motor skills?
increase in brain develop, the beginning of mylenation
How does myelination advance skill development?
speeds up neuron signaling which in turn increase reaction and thought time
What does the hippocampus do?
linked to memory, processor of memory
How is the corpus callosum crucial for learning?
connects the two hemispheres, allows information to pass between halves of brain
What is the limbic system?
emtional regualtion system
What is the amygdala?
can pick up threat easily, neural centers in limbic system, linked to emotion, registers emotion
ex: fear, anxiety
What does the hypothalamus do?
receives signals from amygdala and hippocampus to produce and send hormones
