Chapter 9 Vocab Flashcards
Chromatid
Sister chromatid is each half of an x
Cell division
A splitting of a cell which creates two cells
Centromere
Cell structure that joins two sister chromatids
Cell cycle
Process of cellular reproduction. Interphase, mitosis, cytokinesis
Interphase
Cell grows, matures, and replicates DNA
Mitosis
Cell replicates DNA divides and two genetically diploid daughter cells are produced
Prophase
Cells chromatin condenses into chromosomes
Centriole
Organelle that plays a roll in cell division and is made of microtubles
Spindles
Helps organize chromosomes before the cell divides
Metaphase
Motor proteins pull sister chromatids to the cells equator
Anaphase
Sister chromatids are pulled apart and microtubles, along with motor proteins, move the chromosomes to opposite poles of the cells
Telophase
Nucleoli reappear, two new nuclear membranes begin to form, but the cell has not yet completely divided
Cytokinesis
The cells cytoplasm divides, creating a new cell
Cyclin
One of the specific proteins that regulate ye cell cycle
