Chapter 9 - Motion Flashcards
Acceleration
The rate of change in velocity (m/s²)
Deceleration
The rate of change of velocity when an object slows down.
Displacement
Distance in a given direction.
Gradient
Change of the quantity plotted on the y-axis divided by the change of the quantity plotted on the x-axis.
Tangent
A straight line is drawn to touch a point on a curve so it has the same gradient as the curve at that point
Velocity
Speed in a given direction (m/s)
Distance-time graph
The gradient of this kind of graph represents the speed of an object.
Vector
A physical quantity that jas magnitude and direction.
Scalar
A physical quantity that has magnitude, no direction.
Velocity-time graph
The gradient of this kind of graph represents the acceleration of an object. The area under the line represents the distance travelled.
