Chapter 9 - Ecosystems Flashcards
1
Q
Different levels of ecosystems
A
Individual - a single organism
Population - all the organisms of one species in that habitat
Community - all the organisms of one species in that habitat
Ecosystem - A community of all organisms with the non living factors
2
Q
Interdependence
A
- A community organsims relying upon each other for survival and reproduction
- If there is a change in numbers for one species then there will be huge knock on effects
3
Q
Mutualism
A
- A relationship between two organisms in which both organisms benefit
- Bees and flowers have a mutualistic relationship
- Bees visit flowers to gain necter and pollen is spread to them. When bees land on other plants, they spread the pollen
- This feeds bees and helps plants reproduce
4
Q
Parasitism
A
- A relationship in which only one species benefit
- They live closely to the host species
- An example is fleas as they feed on the hosts blood whilst the host gets no benefit
5
Q
Abiotic factors - non-living
A
Temperature - the distribution of some species is dependent on the temperature. This is represented by malaria spreading north as it is a temperature dependent disease
