Intrinsic/ existence value
A species inherent right to exist and play its ecological roles, regardless of its usefulness to us
HIPPCO
Habitat destruction, invasive species, population and resource use growth, pollution, climate change, overexploitation
Bequest value
People will pay to protect some forms of natural capital for use by future generations
Instrumental value
A species usefulness in providing us with many ecological and economic services that make up the earths natural capital
Threatened species
Vulnerable, declining numbers, likely to become endangered in the near future
Endangered species
Few individual survivors, could soon become extinct
Precautionary principle
Substantial preliminary evidence indicates that an activity can harm human health or the environment, we should take precautionary measures to reduce said harm
