Chapter 9 Flashcards
Term
Each number in the list of numbers of a sequence
Sequence
An ordered list of numbers
Arithmetic Sequence
A sequence in which the difference between any two consecutive terms is the same (add or subtract the same amount)
Common Difference
The amount that the terms are added or subtracted in an arithmetic sequence
Function
A relationship that assigns exactly one output value for each input value
Domain
The set of input values for a function
Range
The set of output values for a function
Function Table
A table used to organize input, function rule, and output values
Linear Function
A function in which the graph of the solution forms a straight line
Slope
(m): The ratio of rise to run
Slope describes the steepness of a straight line numerically
Rise
The change in the vertical distance (y-axis)
Run
The change in the horizontal distance (x-axis)
Direct Variation
When the ratio of two variable quantities is a constant (two quantities going the same direction)
Constant of Variation
(K) The constant ratio in a direct variation
k=y/x
Y=kx
Scatter Plot
A type of graph that plots data points to show a relationship between variables. Data points are ordered pairs.
