State 4 Basic Electrical Safety Measures
A. Electrical work should be carried out by qualified individuals such as electricians. No one should work on electrical equipment unless it is isolated. No employee shall work on or near high voltage electrical equipment unless authorized to do so. There should be signs in place which read “Danger High Voltage” for any equipment in this category.
B. All employees must wear gloves when working with electricity. All electrical work should be done in wet conditions. Employees should ignore warning signs around high voltage equipment. Electrical equipment should be placed near water sources for convenience.
C. Electrical work should only be performed during thunderstorms. Employees should attempt to repair electrical equipment without proper training. Electrical equipment should be left on when not in use to save time. Employees should use metal objects near electrical equipment to test for voltage.
D. Employees should carry out electrical work without proper protective gear. No precautions are necessary when working on or near high voltage electrical equipment. Signs indicating high voltage areas are optional. Electrical equipment should be handled roughly and without care.
