What is a spreadsheet?
A 2 dimensional matrix of columns and rows
Where did the term spreadsheet originate from?
Originated in the accounting world to refer to data entered in columns and rows on a wide sheet of paper
What kinds of things can we use spreadsheets for?
- Help teachers and students creatively solve problems
- Produce documents and projects to communicate info and ideas effectively
- As a research tool to process data and report results.
- Generating numeric information from other numeric information such as creating budgets, income projections, and forecasting needed supplies based on a number of factors.
What is the most commonly used program for spreadsheets
MS excel
What is an active cell?
The cell that is selected and ready for data entry or editing
What is the formula bar?
The area at the top of the screen that displays the content of the active cell.
What is the data entry bar?
Same as the formula bar
What are functions?
Built-in mathematical formula used to calculate cell values.
What is an absolute reference?
A formula meant to always refer to an exact cell regardless of the placement of the formula cell within the spreadsheet. $
What is a relevant reference?
The cell name that appears in the formula bar
What are labels?
The text descriptors related to adjacent data
What is debugging?
The process of removing all logic and construction errors.
What is a template
A blank form in a spreadsheet or file manager program
What are line graphs used for?
Ideal for displaying a continuous event or trend over time.
What are column/bar graphs used for?
Bar graphs have horizontal lines and bar graphs have vertical lines. They present changes in a dependent variable over an independent variable. It’s a good way of comparing multiple variables with a common variable.
