Chapter 8: spreadsheets Flashcards
Purpose of named range cells
Range referenced directly
Used as an absolute reference
Describe the diff between a formula and a function
Formula: calculation formed by used using arithmetics and or functions
Functions: premade named complex calculations
Verifying data on a spread sheet
Compare with source file
Absolute vs relative cell referencing
- when cells replicated, absolute ref stays same whole relative ref changes in relation to the row or column
What is Modelling
- the act of building a model
- computer representation of the real world process
- created through mathematical analysis of the real world
- created using modelling software/ spreadsheets
- ## e.g a computer network
CAD
Computer aided deisign - model of a physical object - viewing in 2d or 3d - adding removing obj - viewing in diff angle - applying fx (color and lighting) -
Features of modelling `=
- variables can be chnaged
- formulas and functions can be used
- can ask what if questions to see result of changing variables
- automatic recalculation of formula function
- rules (how the model behaves)
- layers of abstraction (diff parts viewed and analyzed)
Need for computer models
- Training
- no injury
- low cost
- unpredictable situations
- see what/how variables need to be changed to reach a certain outcome
- can be shared online / offlin
E.g.
- forecasting (weather )
- financial modelling
- construction
Limitations of modelling
Will never be as accurate as IRL
will be close if formulas and fnctions are very complex
spreadsheet: only numbers
experts need to set up
- high cost
- long time
- training to use/ run
Simulation:
computerised model to preidct how a rela life system may behave
- the process of using a model to study behaviour and performance of an actual or theoretical system \
- by controlling variables
- make evaluations / predictions
Model vs simulation
- model aims ot be true to teh syste it represents
- simulations causes models to explore states that wpuld not be possible in the og system
