Chapter 8 - Ideal Gases Flashcards
What are the different measurements of gases (related to 1atm)
1atm = 760mmHg = 760torr = 101.325 kPa
What is temperature at STP? What is it at standard state?
STP: 0º (273K)
Standard state: 25º (298K)
At stp how much volume does one mole of gas occupy?
22.4L
How do you get a density out of a PV=nRT ?
p= m/V2
V2 = V1 (P1/P2)I(T2/P1)
What is Avogadros principle?
All gases at constant temp and pressure occupy volumes that are directly proportional to the number of moles of gas present
**one mole of any gas will occupy 22.4 L at STP
n/V = k. K= constant
n1/V1 = n2/V2
Use when T and P are constant
Boyle’s law
P1v1=p2v2
Charles law
At constant p, V1/t1=V2/t2
Dalton’s law
Combined gas law
Ptotal= p1 + p2 +…
(Total of partial pressures)
How is a partial pressure measured?
Pa= XaPtotal
Xa = moles of gas A / total moles of gas
Henrys law
[A] = Kh x PA.
[A]1 / P1 = A2/P2 = Kh
