Chapter 8 - Forces Flashcards
Atoms
Atoms are the most basic forms of matter
Negatively Charged
A negative electric charge
Positively Charged
A positive electric charge
Protons
Protons are tiny but heavy particles found in the nucleus of an atom. Protons have a positive electric charge
Neutrons
Neutrons are tiny but heavy particles found in the nucleus of an atom. Neutrons have no electric charge
Electrons
Electrons are very light negatively charged particles in an atom that rotates around the nucleus
Insulators
Insulators are materials that do not allow electric charge to flow through them
Conductors
Materials that allow electric energy to flow through them
Neutral
Having same amount of protons and electrons
Static Electricity
A charge-up of energy in one place
Lightning Rods
A metal conductor pole, often attached to the top of buildings
Mass
The measurement of a material in an object or substance
Weight
In gravitational terms, the force in newtons that pulls you down
Terminal Speed
Terminal speed is the speed you have reached when air resistance has balanced out with gravity
Air Resistance
The atmospheres resistance against a falling object
