Independent Contractor
performs a service for an employer and renders and invoice or bill
Employment Law
laws and regulations that govern the management/employee relationship
Canada Labour Code
regulates specific industries (gov. related, nation wide, etc.) on labour regulations, health/safety, standard hours/wages, etc.
Employment Contract
agreement outlining the specifics of an employer/employee responsibilities for a period of time
Dismissal
occurs when an employer informs an employee that they are no longer employed “here”. Can be just or unjust cause
Unjust Dismissal
occurs when an employer does not have the basis to dismiss; there is no cause under their contract
Constructive Dismissal
occurs when the employee has not been fired but believes the employer has not complied with the contract
Union
a collection of employees in a trade or employment organization formed to protect and further their rights
Collective Bargaining
negotiation between a union and management to reach a union contract that outlines the rules for the relationship
