What is message?
The actual communication product from the source. (Speech, interview, conversation).
What is the medium or channel of communication?
The message Is being sent to the sender though auditory, visual or kinesthetic (touch).
What is the receiver (decoder)?
Understanding the message being sent

What is the difference between verbal and nonverbal communication?
Verbal communication uses words
Nonverbal communication may use facial expressions, eye contact and body movement.
What is Intrapersonal communication?
(Self talk) the words you say to yourself
ex: (I got this I’ve dealt with harder things before)
What is interpersonal communication? (Enter the room to talk)
Communication occurring between two or more people exchanging messages (patient, manager, students)
What is group communication?
Small group- two or more people in a group working to achieve a goal (staff meetings)
Organizational communication- people & groups within an organization communicate to achieve a goal
Group dynamic- all group members use there individual strengths and worth together to achieve the same goal.
What is the orientation phase?
-The patient will call the nurse by name
-The patient will accurately describe the roles of the participants in the relationship
-The patient and nurse will establish an agreement about goals, location, frequency and duration
What is the working phase?
The patient will actively participate in the relationship. The patient will express feelings and work to achieve goals.
What is the termination phase?
The patient will identify the progress made by the goals.

How to develop listening skills
-Sit when communicating with a patient
- Be alert and relaxed and take your time
