A
- actual communication product from the source. It might be a speech, interview, conversation, chart, gesture, memorandum, or nursing note
- message can be sent to the receiver through the following channels of auditor such as spoken words and cues or visual with sight, observations, and perception and touch

- is the transmission of info without the use of words also known as body language
- helps nurses to understand subtle and hidden meanings in what the patient is saying verbally

- crucial bc it affects nurse’s behavior and can enhance or detract from positive interactions with the patient and family
