Fractions
A number that represents part of a whole or a part of a set.
Numerator
The top number in a fraction (1/4 the 1 in 1/4 is the numerator). The part of the fraction that tells the number of parts you have.
Denominator
The denominator is the bottom number in a fraction (for example in the fraction 1/4, the denominator is the 4). It represents the number parts of a whole.
Common factors
A number that is a factor of two or more numbers.
20: 1, 2, 4, 5, 10, 20
10: 1, 2, 5, 10
The common factors are 1, 2, 5, and 10 because both numbers have them.
Greatest common factors
The greatest of the common factors of two or more numbers.
20: 1, 2, 4, 5, 10, 20
10: 1, 2, 5, 10
In this example, the greatest common factor is 10 because that is the highest factor for both that is in common.
Simplest form
A fraction in which the GCF of the numerator and the denominator is 1.
LCM (Least Common Multiple)
The smallest whole number greater than 0 that is a common multiple of each of two or more numbers

Fractions that have the same value
Common multiples
A whole number that is a multiple of two or more numbers
Multiples
A multiple of a number is the product of that number and any whole number
LCD (Least Common Denominator
The least common multiple of the denominators of two or more fractions
