Terminal illness
Disease that cannot be cured and will result in death

Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance
Denial
When a person cannot accept it
Anger
When a person is no longer able to deny death
Bargaining
Accepts death but wants more time, usually turns to religion
Depression
Death is near and will no longer have time with their family
Acceptance
Understands and accepts
Needs
Lower need should be met before higher needs
Safety
Needs to be free of anxiety or fear
Sexuality
Ability to give and receive love
Affection
A warm and tender feeling for another person
Esteem
Feeling important and worthwhile. Show respect, approval, and appreciation
Self actualization
Have obtained their full potential
Meeting needs
Motivated, satisfaction , tension or frustration
Satisfying human needs
Direct methods, hard work, realistic goals, situation evaluation, cooperation w/ others
Indirect methods
Defense mechanism
Rationalization
Using a reasonable excuse or acceptable explanation for behavior or avoid the real person
Projection
Placing the blame on your own action on someone else
Five major food groups
Grains, vegetable, fruits, milk, meats and beans
Displacement
Transferring feelings about one person to someone else
Compensation
Substitution of one goal to another to achieve success
Daydreaming
This is a dreamlike thought process that occur when a person is awake
Repression
Involves the transfer of unacceptable or painful ideas, feelings, and thoughts into the unconscious mind
Suppression
Similar to repression, but the individual is aware of the unacceptable feeling or thought refuses to deal w/ them
Denial
Disbelief of an event or idea is too frightening or shocked for a person to cope with
Withdrawal
Individuals can either cease to communicate or remove themselves physically from a situation
Essential nutrition
Chemical found in food as you use the chemical food replenishes it
Vitamin A
Healthy eyes
Vitamin D
Regulates calcium and phosphorous absorption and metabolism
Vitamin E
Necessary for protection of cells and epithelial cells
Vitamin K
Normal clotting of blood
Therapeutic diets
Modifications to the normal diet and are used to improve specific health conditions usually for anorexia patients
Liquid diets
Clear or all liquid diet only used for short periods of time
Diabetic diet
Usually for patients w/ diabetes mellitus
Sodium restricted diets-
Or low sodium diets frequently used for diabetic patients
Bland diet
Does not irritate the digestive track
Care that allows patient to die with dignity and comfort
Hospice
Needs required to sustain life
Physiological
Measurable physical changes that occurs throughout an individuals life
Growth
Indirect method. Used to deal with needs
Defense mechanisms
Uncomfortable inner sensation or feeling
Tension
Psychological condition I which person alternates binges and the fasts
Bulimia
Feeling of pleasure or fulfillment
Satifaction
