Chapter 7 vocab. Flashcards
Constant of Proportionality
A constant ratio described using equations in the form y=kx, where k is the constant ratio.
Congruent
Figures that have the same size and shape.
Coordinate Plane
A system formed when two number lines meet at a 90 degree angle.
Corresponding Parts
Parts of congruent or similar figures that match.
Cross Products
When you multiply the numerator of one ratio with the denominator of a second ratio.
Customary System
The measurement system used in the United States - feet, inches, ounces, etc.
Dilation
A transformation that enlarges or reduces a figure by a scale factor.
Dimensional Analysis
The process of including units of measurement as factors when you compute.
Indirect Measurement
A type of measurement, like using a shadow, to measure something difficult to measure.
Inverse Proportion
A relationship formed when the product of to variables is a constant.
Measurement Conversion
When a measurement is changed from customary to metric or metric to customary.
Metric System
The decimal measurement system based on multiples of 10.
Nonproportional
A relationship in which the ratios or rates are not constant.
Proportion
An equation stating that two ratios or rates are constant.
Proportional
When the ratios of related terms are equal.
Rate
A ratio of two quantities having different types of units.
Ratio
A comparison of two quantities by division.
Scale
The relationship between the measurements on a drawing and the real object.
Scale Drawing
A model used to represent an object that is too small or too big to be built.
Scale Model
The model used to represent an object that is too big or too small to be built.
Scale Factor
The ratio of a length
