Chapter 7: Transverse pulses Flashcards
Define displacement
Displacement is the distance the pulse has moved along a medium.
What is amplitude?
The amplitude of a pulse is the maximum disturbance of a particle from its original/rest position.
What is pulse length?
The pulse length is the distance between the starting point and ending point of a pulse.
Define a pulse
A pulse is a single disturbance in a medium.
What is the principle of superposition?
The principle of superposition states that when two pulses occur in the same place at the same time, the resulting pulse is the sum of the two interfering pulses.
What is constructive interference?
Constructive interference occurs when the resulting amplitude of two or more pulses during interference is greater than the amplitude of the original pulses.
What is destructive interference?
Destructive interference occurs when the resulting amplitude of two or more pulses during interference is less than the amplitude of the original pulses.
