Fossil fuel
A non renewable resource that is burnt to produce heat
Open- cut mining
A form of mining that is open above ground and it is not as dangerous as underground mining.
Mineral ore
A substance that contains minerals of value obtained by mining.
Black coal
A hard dry coal. Formed by compressing peat over millions of years.
Brown coal
Not as hard as black coal. Formed by compressing peat over millions of years and black coal is more efficient.
Gangue
Left over waste rock and mineral material.
Deposition
The laying down of weathered rock particles.
Desalination
The conversion of sea water to fresh water.
Weathering
Breaking down rocks using conditions of the atmosphere.
Erosion
The process of moving weathered rock from one place to another.
Biomass
Material produced by living organisms.
Mining
Digging into the ground to find valuable minerals.
Deforestation
The process of cutting down trees.
