Chapter 7 Hypothesis Testing - Year 1 Flashcards
What is a test statistic?
The evidence from the sample (the count of success)
What is the symbol for a null hypothesis?
What is the symbol for an alternate hypothesis?
What is the null hypothesis?
This hypothesis suggests that nothing has changed
What is the alternate hypothesis?
The hypothesis that states that there has been a change in the population parameter
What is the difference in the hypothesis on a 1 and 2 tailed test?
What is the change in the significance level when doing a 1 or 2 tailed test?
In a 2 tailed test you need to half the significance level stated in the exam
What actually is the significance level?
It is the max probability needed from our sample to reject our null hypothesis
What is a critical region?
A critical region defines the values for which we would reject the null hypothesis
What is the critical value?
The first value to fall inside the critical region
What is the p value?
The p value is the probability of the test statistics happening
(When doing a 2 tailed test you need to X this value by 2)
What is the actual significance level of a test?
The probability of incorrectly rejecting the null hypothesis
