Chapter 7 Flashcards
Dislocation Density
Total dislocation length per unit volume.
Slip
The process by which plastic deformation is produced by dislocation motion.
Lattice Strain
Compressive, tensile, and shear strain resulting from the presence of dislocations.
Slip System
Depends on the crystal structure and species.
Critical resolved shear stress
Minimum shear stress required to initiate slip.
Strain hardening
Phenomenon whereby a ductile metal becomes harder and stronger as it is plastically deformed.
Dislocation Density
Total dislocation length OVER unit volume.
Cold Working
The plastic deforma- tion of a metal at a temperature be- low that at which it recrystallizes. color. Visual perception stimu- lated by the combination of wave- lengths of light that are transmitted to the eye.
Recovery
At high temperature, some of the internal energy internal strain energy is relieved by virtue of dislocation motion.
Recrystallization Temperature
The temperature at which recrystallization just reaches completion in one hour.
