Chapter 7&8 Vocabulary Flashcards
AAS Congruence
If 2 angles and a side of a triangle have the same measure as 2 angles and a side of another triangle, then the triangle are congruent
ASA Congruence
If 2 angles and the side between them of a triangle have the same measure as 2 angles and the side between them of another triangle, then the triangles are congruent
SAS Congruence
If 2 sides and the angle between them of a triangle have the same measure as 2 sides and the angle between them of another triangle, then the triangles are congruent
SSS Congruence
If all 3 sides of a triangle have the same measures as the 3 sides of another triangle, then the triangles are congruent
Congruent Figures
Geometric figures that have the same shape and size
Corresponding Parts
Parts that match between two congruent triangles
CPCTC
Corresponding Parts of Congruent Triangles are Congruent
If two triangles are congruent, then each part of one triangle is congruent to the corresponding part of the other triangle.
Base Angles
Either of the angles of a triangle that have one side in common with the base.
Base Angle Theorem
In an isosceles triangle, the angles opposite the congruent sides are congruent.
Converse of the Base Angle Theorem
If two angles of a triangle are congruent, then the sides opposite them are congruent.
HL Congruence
If the hypotenuse and leg of one right triangle are congruent to the hypotenuse and leg of another right triangle, then the two triangles are congruent.
Vertex Angle
Angle that is formed by two lines crossing at a vertex
Reflexive Property
For every real number x , x=x
Alternate Interior Angle Theorem
If two parallel lines are cut by a transversal, then the resulting alternate interior angles are congruent
(Makes ‘Z’ shape)
Corresponding Angle Postulate
If two parallel lines are cut by a transversal, then the resulting corresponding angles are congruent
(Makes ‘F’ shape)
