Box Plot
A graphic way of showing a summary of data using the median, quartiles, and extremes of data
Coefficient
A number multiplying a variable or product of variables
Constant of Proportionality
Is K is the proportional relationship equation y=kx
Fraction Busters
A method of simplifying equations involving fractions that uses the Multiplicitave Property of Equality to rearrange the equation so that no fractions remain.
First Quartile
Notated as Q1, is the median of the lower half of an ordered set of data
Giant One
A fraction that is equal to 1
Histogram
A way of displaying data that is much like a bar graph in that the height of the bars is proportional to the number of elements
Interest
An amount paid which is a percentage of an initial value
Interquartile Range (IQR)
Notated IQR, is a way to measure the spread of data.
Mean
Also known as average, is a measure of central tendency found by adding the set of numbers and dividing the number of numbers in the set.
Median
A measure of central tendency that is the middle number of an ordered set of data.
Measure of Central Tendency
Reflects special statistical information about a set of data; Mean Median & Mode
Outlier
A number in a set of data that is much larger or smaller than the other numbers in the set.
Principal
Initial investment or capital; an initial value
Percent Change
The percent a quantity increases or decreases from its original amount.
Proportional Relationship
Two values where a proportion may be set up that relates the values.
Rate
A ratio comparing two quantities, often a comparison of time.
Scale
The ratio between the length of the representation and the corresponding length of the actual object.
Similar
Figures that have the same shape but not necessarily the same size
Stem-and-leaf Plot
A frequency distribution that arranges data so that all digits except the last digit in a piece of data are in the stem, the last digit of the piece of data being the leaves, & stems and leaves are arranged from least to greatest.
Third Quartile
Notated as Q3, is the median of the upper half of an ordered set of data.
