Magnesium ribbon.

List all the equipment you used and summarize procedure

A

Equipment : busen burner , clay triangle bowl , magnesium ribbon , and balance.
Procedure : matching the flame first than turned the gas on to create the fire. We than put the Bowl over the clay triangle filled with the magnesium ribbon directly onto the fire causing a white light
Warning : not to touch the clay bowl .

20
Q

Magnesium ribbon.
Describe what you saw. What was the product formed ? ( give formula and name) . What was happening in the atomic level ( which element was gaining and which was losing)

A

As the magnesium was burning it became a grayish ash substance. The product formed was MgO , which is Magnesium Oxide . On the atomic level Magnesium was losing two and oxygen was gaining two.
