Anatomic position
The body in a upright position, face and feet pointing forward with arms at the side, and the palm forward.
Body planes
imaginary lines drawn through the body at various levelsa to seperate body into sections.
Transverse plane
cut in half, has a top and bottom
Midsagittal or median plane
half with left and right sides
Frontal or coronal
cut in half front and back
Anterior (ventral)
toward the front
posterior (dorsal)
Toward the back
Superior
toward the head
inferior
away from the head
medial
toward the midline
lateral
away from the midline
proximal
toward the attached end of limb
distal
away from the attached end of limb
superficial
external or close to the surface
deep
internal or away from the surface
plantar
the sole of bottom of the feet
dorsal
the top surface of the feet
palmer
the palm or anterior side of hand
