What is homicide?
Killing another human being.
What does it mean to be culpable?
To deserve blame.
What is murder?
Intentional killing.
In what instances would someone be charged with first degree murder?
- When it is planned and deliberate
- When the victim is law enforcement
- When death occurs during offensive crime.
- During terrorist/criminal organization activity.
In what instances would someone be charged with second degree murder?
When the situation does not fit into the categories for first degree but the murder was caused intentionally.
What is manslaughter?
Causing death for another human by means of an unlawful act.
What would someone need to prove to get charges dropped from murder to manslaughter?
Provocation - causing self control loss
Intoxication
What is infanticide?
Killing of a child under 1 by the mother who has been diagnosed with postpartum depression/mental disturbance.
Suicide is no longer a crime but what is something involving it that is?
To counsel or assist someone committing suicide.
When is homicide not culpable?
When it is an accident or when it is in self defense.
What is the max. sentence for assault?
5 years
What is assault?
- applying intentional force without consent
- attempt or threat to apply force
- interaction with clear possession of a weapon
What is assault causing bodily harm?
Committing an assault while carrying, using or threatening to use a weapon.
What is the max. sentence for assault causing bodily harm?
10 years
What is aggravated assault?
Committing an assault that wounds, maims, disfigures, or endangers the life of the victim.

14 years
What is sexual assault?
Sexual contact without consent.

Communication for the purpose of prostitution.

Directing customers to the services of a prostitute.

Making, printing, circulating obscene material or participating in immoral performances.
What is terrorism?
Any violent action taken for political, religious or ideological reasons.
What is child pornography?
Depiction of someone under 18 involved in sexual activity. (Includes viewing child pornography online and communicating with children online for sexual purposes).
What is criminal harassment?
Pursuing or communicating with an unwilling victim and with their friends/family. Must cause a person to reasonably fear for themselves or others. (also ciberstalking)
