Chapter 7 Flashcards
Directional hypothesis
makes specific predictions as to the exact nature of the relationship between two variables
Likert scale
asks questions like do you “strongly disagree” or “strongly agree” on a scale
alternate-form validity
if two different midterms are handed out, students should do the same
internal consistency reliability
when a scale asks questions similar enough that people will answer the same
forced choice scale
only two options on survey (yes or no, true or false)
reverse-coded items in survey
inverting the scale for certain survey questions
face validity
the degree to which something measures what it’s supposed to measure
content validity
whether a measurement includes all the essential elements it needs to cover
construct validity
how well a test measures the concept it was designed to evaluate
convergent validity
how closely a test is related to other tests that measure the same (or similar) constructs
quasi experimental design
aims to establish a cause-and-effect relationship between an independent and dependent variable
test-retest reliability
a measure of how consistent the results of a test are over time
criterion validity
a method of evaluating how well a test or measurement tool predicts real-world outcomes
Evaluation apprehension
a human tendency to try to look better or fear of being evaluated
nonresponse bias
occurs when survey participants are unwilling or unable to respond to a survey question or an entire survey
