Chapter 6.6: Trapezoids and Kites Flashcards
base
parallel sides of trapezoid
leg
non parallel sides of a trapezoid
Base angles
formed by base and one of the legs
A pair of base angles is formed by the same base
Isosceles Trapezoid
legs cong
both pairs of base angles cong (just need one pair of cong. base angles to prove quad. is isocles trapezoid)
diagonals cong
Mid segment of A Trapezoid
segment that connects midpoints of the legs of a trapezoid
parallel to each base
measure is 1/2 sum of the bases
Kite
two pairs of consective cong. sides
diagonals perp.
EXACTLY one pair of opp. cong. angles
Quadrilateral
Trapezoid
quad. with one pair of parallel sides
How to tell if a Quadrilateral in a Coordinate Plane is a Trapezoid? Isosceles Tapeziod?
1) See if slopes of opposite sides are the same (parallel). If one pair of sides is parallel and the other isn’t, then the shape is a trapezoid.
2. Use the distance form. To see if the legs are cong. For Isosceles Trapezoid
