Chapter 6 - Review Flashcards
Wavelength?
the name of the distance between consecutive peaks in a wave of electromagnetic radiation
Frequency?
The name for the measurement of the number of peaks passing a given point in space per time unit.
Photon?
A packet of electromagnetic energy
Higher energy, Red or blue?
Blue because it has shorter wavelengths and more frequency
Longer wavelength, Red or Blue?
Red, because it has less energy and less frequencyL
Ground state?
Lowest possible energy state of an atom
List the forms of radiation in correct order going from highest to lowest energy?
Gamma, X-ray, Ultraviolet, Visible light, Infrared, Microwaves, Radio waves.
Metallic Charactrer
Increases from left to right, [He to H] and from top to bottom [H to Fr]
Nonmetallic Character
Increases from right to left, and from bottom to top.
Atomic size or nuclear charge
Decreases from left to right, increases top to bottom
Ionization energy
Increases left to right, and bottom to top. (Cationazation, atoms that are more likely to give up electrons and become Cations)
Electronegativity
Increases left to right and bottom to top.
