Political Socialization

A

Definition: is the process of which you & I gain our political values.

Significance: the way modern Americans form their views & morals within the political world, it highlights the impact your peers could have on you

Example: when we are younger we listen to what our parents say and what political party they are going for and we start to do the same. They have said that by the age of 5 years old we start to have a general sense of our political values.

Gender Gap

A

Definition: Men & Women often see issues differently due to their different life experiences

Significance: On many policy issues there is a 10 point gap between opinions on men & women.

Example: Many polls have shown how women are more democratic. 47% of men in the 2020 presidential election voted in favor of democrats and 57% of women voted for the Democratic Party. So women are tend to be more democratic.

Random Sample

A

Definition: It consist of a limited number of people from overall population, elected in such way that each individual has an equal chance of being chosen.

Significance: It provides credible and accurate information as to what the American people are thinking in regards to certain topics.

Example: back in the days pollsters would call (landlines) potential respondents trying to avoid being biased or even avoid regional bias.

Representative Sample

A

Definition: A group of respondents whose demographic distribution is similar to that of overall population.

Significance: allows for the most accurate information to be presented by pollsters

Example: since 51% of the population are women when measuring a poll we would have to have more women participate in the poll so it can be accurate

Leading Questions

A

Definition: a question worded to lead a respondent to give a desired answer

Significance: The results gathered from the leading questions are now flawed & inaccurate

Example: A push poll is a prime example, this poll is biased and has an agenda.
