grand jury
a group that examines accusations against the person charged with a crime.
petit jury
trier of fact/ larger than grand jury
venireman list
list of prospective jurors made up of registered voters, vehicle driver’s
licenses, and tax assessors’ records.
affirmative registration
action on the part of women to actively
seek to be included on juries.
voir dire
to speak the truth
challenge for cause
the method used by either the prosecution or defense attorneys to strike or remove prospective jurors from the available jury pool
peremptory challenge
rejection of a juror by either the prosecution or the defense in which no reason needs to be excusing
scientific jury selection
applying the scientific method to select jurors who believed will render favorable choices for or against defendants
jury sequestration
process of isolating a jury from the public during a trial
evidence - driven jury
jury that decides to consider all evidence presented as relevant rather than selected evidence based on juror preferences
verdict- driven jury
jury that decides guilt or innocence 1st without considering adequately the relevant evidence in the case
blue - ribbon jury
the jury considered by either side to be ideal because of it’s perceived likelihood of rendering a verdict favorable to that side.

refusal to accept the validity of evidence at trial
