Chapter 6 Glaucoma In Children And Adolescents Flashcards
Triad of PCG
Epiphora, photophobia, and blepharospasm
Factors associated with worse prognosis in PCG
Newborn PCG (>50% progress to legal blindness) Diagnosis after 1 year of age, cornea > 14mm diameter.
PCG demographics
70% bilateral, 65% male, consanguinity greatly increases risk
Haab striae
Breaks in December membrane as a result of elevated iop.
Until what age does elevated iop cause corneal stretching and buphthalmos?
3
JOAG presentation and inheritance
AD- linked to mutations in TIGR/MYOC
Presents between 4 and 35 with elevated iop but usually no corneal enlargement/ haab stria.
Can have progressive myopia until age 10.
May require trabeculectomy or tube shunt.
Axenfeld Rieger Syndrome
Anomalous development of neural crest derived anterior segment structures.
Autosomal dominant
Posterior embryotoxon of the corneaand iris adhesions to schwalbe line.
Iris may be normal or have correctopia , hole formation and ectropion uveae
