changes in the present do not have
stem changes in the preterite (i.e.
pensar), ir verbs that have stem
changes in the present have stem
changes in the Ud./el/ella and
Uds./ellos(as) in the preterite. “E”
becomes “I” and “O” becomes “U.”

e.g servir - servi, serviste, sirvio,
servimos, servisteis, sirvieron

e.g. dormir - dormi, dormiste, durmio,
dormimos, dormisteis, durmieron
