Chapter 6: Chemical Equalibria Flashcards
What is La Chatiliers principle?
When a factor is changed, an equilibrium will shift to oppose that change.
Describe what is happening when the mixture is at dynamic equilibrium
- rate of forward and backward reactions are equal.
- concentrations of reactant and products are not changing
Which way will the equilibrium shift if the pressure was to increase?
If we increase the pressure the equilibrium will shift to the side with less gas particles.
Which way will equilibrium shift if we reduce the pressure?
If we decrease the pressure the equilibrium will shift to the side with the most gas particles.
Which way will the equilibrium shift if we increase the concentration of the reactants or products?
The equilibrium will shift to try to reduce the concentration.
