What is a CWS?
Central Warning System
What is the purpose of a CWS?
Give the crew visual and audio indications in response to certain failures and events in the aircraft systems.
Allows appropriate action to be taken by the crew.
Can also advise on the status of some aircraft systems.
What is the CWS controlled by?
A Master Control Unit (MCU).
Where are CWS warnings displayed?
Central Warning Panel (CWP)
CWP captions are compatible with night vision, how does this affect the colours?
NVD red looks orange
NVD amber looks yellow
What is an attention getter?
Pilot must push either an attention getter or the Master Caution to acknowledge an error than will have appeared and will be flashing.
This will also cancel audio tones.
In the event of multiple alerts, which audio warning sounds first?
The highest priority alert.
Audio alerts will automatically cancel when their cause is removed.
What colour are CWS Primary warnings?
Red
Usually demands immediate action
What colour are CWS Secondary warnings?
AMBER
Malfunction needs attention, but not necessarily immediate action
What are the types of CWS warning?
Primary (red)
Secondary (AMBER)
Advisory (green = system ready for use, white or blue = corresponding system is functioning)
