Chapter 6 Cardiorespiratory Endurance Flashcards
Define aerobic
exercises that require oxygen to produce energy to carry out an activity
Define responders
Individuals who exhibit improvement in fitness as a result of exercise training
Define anaerobic
Doesn’t require oxygen to produce energy to carry out activity
(Intensity is high that oxygen can’t be delivered to produce energy)
What’s the difference between responders and nonresponders
Responders- readily show improvement
Nonresponders- small or no improvements
What is the increase in vO2max after several months of aerobic training
15 and 20% on the average
Individual responses= 0-50%
How is CD endurance and CR fitness or aerobic determined by
The maximum amount of oxygen the human body is able to utilize
What are the componet of VO2
The amount of oxygen the body uses at rest or during sub maximal (VO2)
what is a normal heart rate?
ranges from 45 bpm or lower during resting condition in trained athletic to 200 bpm or high.
Define maximal heart rate
highest heart tate for a person related primary to age
What is the increase in stroke volume responsible for
The increase in Vo2max with endurance training
Define artrial venous oxygen difference (a-v02max)
The amount of oxygen removed from the vascular system
What is Vo2max affected by?
Genetics training, gender, age, and body composition
List 5 exercise to test CR Fitness
1.5 mile, 1.0 mile, walk test, step tests, the astrand- Rhyming test and the 12 minute swim test.
What is used to estimate the submax workload when taking the step test.
Step test- requires little time and equipment submax workload is used to estimate (Vo2max)
How is a astrand ryhming test conducted
Astrand rhyming test- “most popular” test to estimate (vo2max) conducted on a bicyle erogometer.
How much does a pound of body fat represent?
3,500 calories
How can you determine a reasonable accuracy of your caloric intake?
Apply the principle of 5 calories burned per liter of oxygen consumed.
During what week is the most critical time during a exercise program
6 weeks
What is the aconym used to describe the four CR exercises ?
FITT: Frequency, intesity, time, type
What does it take for muscles to be developed?
You muscles get to be overloaded to a given point. The training stimulus to develop the biceps muscles
How do you develop the CR system
The heart muscles has to be overloaded like any other muscle in the human body
Define Heart Rate Rescue
HRR- The difference between the MHR and RHR
Define vigorous exercise
CR Excercise taht requires 70% of capacity. (intensity level) CR exercise taht noticebly increase heart reate and breathing. Requires 50% of capacity .
