Chapter 6 Flashcards
- Why does David plan on taking his shoes off in the morning?
David wants his shoes to last, so that he can wear them
when it grows colder or when he is forced to travel at night.
(page 131)
- Do you think it was wrong to speak Italian like a nobleman?
Student’s own answer.
Example:
Yes, David is smart and he is supposed to realize that other
people will find it strange if he speaks in that way.
No, that is the only Italian David knows. It is never wrong to
speak a language properly.
- When David is offered food, he refuses. What does he ask
from the priest instead?
David asks to see a map of Italy so that he can see where
Switzerland begins. (page 138)
- How does David feel after he reads the notice in the
newspaper?
For a little while he felt completely happy. (page 141)
- What stops David from going back to Maria and her
family?
David would always hate Carlo and he would always be
different and out of place. He would also never be able to
tell them what they wanted to know. (page 141)
- Explain how Sophie explains David to her friend.
Instead of saying that David is a strange boy, she merely
says, “Someone’s broken his spirit.” (page 151)
