The movement that called for rebirth of religious ways of life.
What does Pennsylvania mean?
Penns woods.
What is the right to trial by jury?
The right of people accused of breaking the law to be tried by a group of fellow citizens.
What is an immigrant?
A person who moves to a country to make a new home there.
Who was George Whitefield?
A popular minister during the Great Awakening.
Who was Peter Stuyvesant?
The governor of New Netherland.
Who were the Quakers?
They believed that all people were equal and basically good. They wanted problems to be solved peacefully.
Who was William Penn?
Gave the PA colonists 3 rights:
Freedom of speech, religion and the right to trial by jury.
What states were in the middle colonies?
PA, NY, NJ, and Delaware.
What did the English want?
Control of the Dutch Colony to expand.
What were the major trade centers?
The port cities that helped the economic success of the middle colonies.
Did the Dutch settlers fight off the English when they were invading New Netherland?
No.
