Chapter 6-7 : Phoyosynthesis and Cellular Respiration ๐ฑ Flashcards
Electromagnetic Radiation Spectrum
Made of individual PHOTONs.
Light is Visible at โฆ
380 - 600 nm ( violet - red light )
Chlorophyll
Light absorbing ; begins the process of photosynthesis
Chlorophyll A & B absorbs what light ?
Absorbs : ( blue - violet ) & ( red ) light.
Reflects : 500 - 600 nm ( green )
What is a Chloroplast and its 6 essential parts ?
Chloroplast is the only membrane that contains a Chlorophyll.
1 Stroma ( carpet | protein rich )
2 Thylakoid ( Book )
3 Thylakoid Membrane
4 Thylakoid Lumen ( has ETC )
5 Grana ( bookshelf )
6 Lamellae (keeps bookshelf together)
List the color of lowest to highest light energy ?
Red - Orange - Yellow - Green - Blue - Violet
What are pigments present in green plants ?
|1| Chlorophyll A |2| Chlorophyll B
|3| Carotenoids |4| Xantophyll
ATP
adenosine triphosphate | - provides immediate energy
NADPH
Electron donor
Electron Transport involves both :
1| Oxidation ( lose of electron )
2| Reduction ( gains electron )
Photo system 2
- electron passes along ETC
- across Thylakoid Membrane to Lumen
- release electrons & pulls H+ ions to Lumen
- H+ = positive charges builds up and release/transfers electron to Photo system 1
Photo system 1
- electron from 2 is energized by light
* transferred in series of chemical complex where NADP+ accepts 2 electron and an H+ forming NADPH
What is the final and byproduct of the photo systems?
ATP - is the final product once it goes through the โATP Systhase Complexโ
Byproduct = oxygen
What is Photolysis and its Reaction equation ?
Equation :
2 H2O = 4 H + 4 electrons + O2
Photolysis is a chemical reaction where O2 is pulled from H2O to replace the disappearing electron in the 2nd system & leaving H+ for the 1st system.
Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration equation
Photosynthesis :
CO2 + H2O + energy = C6H12O6 + O2
Cellular Respiration :
C6H12O6 + O2 = CO2 + H2O + energy
