Norm-referenced tests
used to compare an individuals level of achievement or skill in a particular area
Standardization
test given in exactly the same uniform and scripted manner to everyone who takes it
Normative Sample
group of individuals who were given the test to identify standards of performance at specific age levels
Standard score
index that identifies how a person’s test performance compares with his/her peers
Raw score
number of items scored as incorrect
Standard normal distribution
how scores will range for a skill or aptitude that is assumed to be distributed within the population
Normal curve
standard scores are arranged along a standard normal distribution

average score
