Describe cut-through switching.
Forwards the frame as soon as it’s received and does not check the fcs.
Describe store-and-forward switching
The switch fully revives and stores the frame before forwarding, in order to check the fcs before forwarding.
Describe fragment free switching
Frames are forwarded after receiving the first 64bytes, in order to check the fcs
What is the purpose of vlans
To limit broad cast and creat multiple brad cast domains for security reasons.
What would result if a nic uses 10mbs and IEEE auto negotiation.
The port would run at 10mbps full duplex
How does IEEE auto-negotiation work
The two nic advertise what speed they both have in common and run that with the best duplex setting.
What speed do nic’s use whe auto-negotiation fails.
The lowest supported speed, often 10mbps

If speed = 10 or 100 use half-duplex otherwise use full
