Chapter 6: Flashcards

1
Q

A 6 V battery drive a 3 A current through a 2 ohm resistor. If another 2 ohm resistor is added to the circuit, in parallel with the first resistor, how much power is being dissipated through the entire circuit?

a. 22 W.
b. 10 W.
c. 36 W.
d. 65 W.

A

P = I * V
P = 3 A * 6 V = 36

Although resistors in parallel will divide the current, since this is asking about the whole circuit, we will still use 3 A for current.

If this question were to ask how much was dissipated over a specific circuit, then we would have to solve for the specific current of that resistor.

Ohms law:

A

For a circuit - the change in voltage is equal to the resistance multiplied by the current through the curcuit.

V = IR
