Text/Type
The way the characters look
Font
is text mathematically defined, can be scaled to any size without losing its sharp, smooth edges
outline type
composed of pixels, and can develop jagged edges when enlarged
Bitmap type
have a tail or stroke at the end of the characters
Serif fonts
do not have tails and are commonly used in headlines
Sans Serif font
used to display unique characters
Symbol fonts
The size of each characters is measured in (1 inch is equivalent to 72 points)

default photoshop size
12 pts
determines the size and physical properties of the object
structure
determines where the shadow falls relative to the text
angle
determines the lighting effects
shading
affects the amount of visible dimension
altitude
determines the pattern with which light is reflected
gloss contour
determine how pigments are combined
Highlight mode and shadow mode
converted to an image layer (can no longer be edited)
Rasterized
let you create waves or curves in type (glass, pinch, ripple, etc)
Distort filters
height of ridges within an object
relief
adjustments made between characters and lines of type
type spacing
each character occupies the same amount of space
monotype spacing
each character can take up different amount of space
proportional spacing
controls the amount of space between characters and can effect several characters and can affect several characters, a word, or an entire paragraph
kerning
inserts a uniforms amount of space between selected characters
tracking
changes amount of space between lines of text
